Dream Come True…
Reginald was suffering with Cancer and longed to visit Liverpool F.C and watch his favourite team play.
Reginald’s son Anthony contacted us to see if we would be able to make his dads dream a reality.
We contacted the relevant people and before we knew it, Liverpool F.C had responded and the date was set!
Since Reginald was a local guy, there was no need to arrange for accommodation so before he knew it, he was on his was to Melwood, much to his delight!
On his return, we received this thank you from Reginald’s other son, Tony:
I’m writing to say thank you to The HoneyRose foundation for inviting my dad to Liverpool Football Club’s training ground recently (23rd February). He was diagnosed with Myeloma; a rare form of cancer that has meant he’s spent nearly a year on chemotherapy. He wanted to watch a game at Anfield, but LFC went one better and invited us to Melwood.
We arrived at 9am to be greeted by John Dowber who was an absolute gent, and showed us around the training ground first, before we went to the player’s canteen for breakfast and to meet the squad. The day we went was actually the day Storm Doris decided to hit the UK, so it was a very windy and rainy day which meant that the training wouldn’t take place.
Despite this, every member of the Liverpool squad who was present on the day took the time to come over and speak to us, have photos taken with us, and sign a shirt for my dad. When Jurgen Klopp came over, my dad was smiling from ear to ear, especially when he learned that they shared the same birthday.
After meeting the team, we were invited to the indoor pitch to watch them train, before heading to Anfield for the stadium tour. Due to the extreme weather, the tour was cancelled, but it didn’t matter as we’d had a fantastic day, and we haven’t stopped talking about it/showing the photos to our friends & family.
I’d like to say a huge thank you to Chris Anders for making this happen for us – we can’t express how much we appreciate it.
If you are suffering from a terminal illness and feel that a day like this could benefit you or someone you know, why not contact us and see if we can help!!
